Chinese Words

The purpose of this section is to look in detail at some of the characters used throughout the site.  Each page will focus on one particular character and will show :

• the correct stroke order of the character.
• the character's radical, highlighted in red.
• example sentences using the character.
• simple compound words which use the character.
• examples of the usage of these compound words.
• ...and (when I have time) some graphical examples of the character that show how it may be written in different styles.

I have tried extremely hard to only use characters from the Flashcards and other sections of the site.  In this way, you should know most of the characters in each sentence.  Hopefully you will find it as interesting as I have when you see how some words are made up.
