Chinese Notepad Instructions

The idea with this notepad is that you print out the pages, cut each box out (preferably with a guillotine) and bind all the pages together.

Printing

Simply go to page one and if you can see 6 different rectangles that look like this:

If so, simply print the page from your web browser and check that the 6 rectangles look the same size.  If the rectangles don't look like the above picture then I'm afraid you may need to use a different web browser.  I use Internet Explorer 5.5.  I know that Netscape 6 doesn't display the backgrounds correctly.

Cutting

Once you have all your pages printed you need to cut out each rectangle to make each page of your notebook.  A small sliding guillotine is best for this.  Remember to keep the pages in order - the bottom right hand character should show a preview of the next page.

As an optional step, you could alse corner-round each page.  A corner rounder only costs about £5 UK ($8 US) and with it you will be able to round each corner like a playing card.

Binding

By this stage you should have all the pages in the correct order in a pile.  There are several methods of binding them:

  • If you are lazy, a staple or paper clip will hold the pages together!

  • You can hole-punch the top left corner of all the pages and bind them with a piece of string or a piece of copper wire, bent into a ring.  The advantage of this method is that you can flip the pages round to the back.

  • You can try double sided tape along the top edge of your pages and then wrap a small cover over the other side that overlaps along the front and back of the notepad.  To get this to work you need to ensure that each top edge of the pages is completely level.

  • If you can't be bothered to bind the pages yourself you can take them to a printers or stationery shop and ask them to bind the pages along the top edge.  They will generally use a thermal glue and the results should look good.

Congratulations!

You should now have a little chinese notebook which you can put on your desk or next to your phone to help you revise characters!
