田雞東
to go Dutch; each pays one's own share for a meal | synonym: AA制 Literally "frog host", this term is a play on two Cantonese homonyms 合 and 蛤. When we say 合錢 "to pool money (for the meal)", 合 is pronounced [gap3] - exactly the same as 蛤, the alternative name of 田雞 "a frog". As regards 東 here, it is abbreviated from 做東 "to play the host (of the meal)".
