Usage Note

Although you have already learned the single characters for some animals, in practise, Chinese people use two words to clarify the meaning.  This is an example of compund words - words composed of two or more characters.  There are many such examples throughout this site.

大 = big  笨 = stupid  老 = old  山 = mountain
猩 = ape  隻 = numerical classifier for animals
