Extra Food Notes!

Chinese people eat eggs from several birds which is why you need to clarify your meaning with 雞
淡 also means weak (when speaking about tea etc), lacking salt and insipid - so you can insult food with it!

Character Analysis

粉 - note this is made up of the 米 (rice) radical and 分 (meaning to divide).  So you can remember this by imagining rice being ground into powder. 粉 can also mean flour.
鹽 and 鹹 are extremely complex character to write which is why they are printed bigger!
